We're constantly being told that we cannot achieve anything in life without 'hard work'.

All the gurus and talking heads telling you to hustle, push and work, work, work... HARD!

But you know what I associated this with for many years?

Suffering.

I had this belief that you had to SUFFER in order to achieve something.

And if I wasn't suffering, then somehow success wouldn't happen or it simply wouldn't last.

Don't get me wrong, you have to 'do work' to achieve success.

But why does it have to be hard?

Why do we have to associate suffering with success.

Why can it not just be... work?

And this is the subject of today's podcast episode.

I talk about...

  • Why achieving a goal doesn't need to be associated with suffering.
  • How to have fun and enjoy the process of moving towards your vision.
  • Re-defining what 'hard work' is.
  • Why the RIGHT work trumps 'hard work' every time.
  • Why it's not necessary to suffer your way to success.
  • Why I hate the word 'hustle'.

Ever feel like your goals and visions are so far away that there's no point in trying anymore?

Hell, I know I've felt it.

Constantly looking forwards and thinking all my hopes and dreams are too far away.

It doesn't matter how far I've come, it's never enough.

This is how I used to think.

And without realising it, I was falling into a deadly mental trap that was keeping me stuck and feeling like a failure.

But there's a way to measure your success WITHOUT ever making yourself feel like a failing douchebag.

And that's exactly what I talk about in today's podcast episode.

I talk about...

  • The deadly mental trap most of us fall into that keeps us stuck.
  • How to use your goals and vision as inspiration, not measuring sticks.
  • Why measuring BACKWARDS, not forwards, is so much better for staying happy and feeling successful.
  • The three-pronged approach I use to get out of a funk.
  • How the standard way of chasing goals puts you on a never ending treadmill of not feeling good enough.

It was so interesting talking with Andre Duquemin.

In his mid-30s, Andre 'should' have been happy.

He had a successful business, nice car, nice house, nice family and all that stuff.

Yet he suddenly found himself coming to an abrupt realisation that, despite having all of this, he was pretty chuffing miserable.

To me, this is a testament to the fact that we must all do work on ourselves if we want to be happy and live a joyful, meaningful life.

Simply chasing some future goal we believe will give us happiness will never work.

It's this kind of 'inner work' that Andre used to get him through this period in his life, and now he works as a coach to help men suffering with similar issues to get through it themselves.

So in this interview I talk to Andre about how he came through this crisis in his life... and how to avoid it happening to you.

In The Episode, We Talk About...

  • Andre's story of how he went from seemingly 'successful' to his breakdown where he spent an evening shouting at cows and bushes.
  • How awareness and allowing yourself to just 'be' is a huge part of achieving happiness and contentment.
  • How to stop living in the future and attaching your happiness to a future outcome.
  • The pressures of our pre-defined gender roles and how to achieve what YOU want, not what society says you should want.
  • How to deal with emotional and mental shit storms in your life.
  • Why it's not just okay for men to be in touch with their emotions, but absolutely critical to do so.
  • A specific technique that exponentially helped Andre get through his breakdown.

It was great talking with Andre and I really hope you find the interview useful!

That's a bold promise, I know.

But these two words really did help me just release a lot of head shizzle that was building up.

And these words are:

"Fuck it".

Or "let go" if you don't want to be so crude about it :)

Anyway, saying 'fuck it' to stuff does make a lot of things better.

This isn't about just taking the 'lackadaisical route' with everything and turning completely into the Dude Lebowski.

But more about how we tend to attach so much meaning to SO many in a pretty needless way in most cases.

Think about something that's creating struggle right now in your life.

A problem, an issue, something that sits in the back of your mind.

Can you just say 'fuck it' and let it go?

Would it not be pretty cool if you could simply decide to not attach so much meaning to it?

I know, it can be hard.

There are things you've grown up with and built a lifetime of attachment to.

But what kind of person would you be become if you could... let it go and move on?

I explain further in the episode.

I talk about...

  • What it means to let go and say 'fuck it'.
  • How I've said 'fuck it' in my life to great effect.
  • What 'attaching meaning' to things actually means.
  • Why your resistance to saying 'fuck it' is something you can choose to override.
  • How attaching your happiness to external things is a recipe for disaster.
  • How letting go is something you can choose to do and how amazing it feels.

This is a subject I am deeply passionate about because I have used it to great effect in my own life after attaching meaning to so many things previously.

I watched the film 'About Schmidt' recently.

It's one of my favourites.

A bit of a dark and dry comedy.

It's about a guy played by Jack Nicholson who's about to retire.

Only he finds himself realising he feels like he kind of wasted his life.

Never really took the big risk.

Played the 'safety game'.

And got stuck in middle management without making the true impact he felt like he could have.

Don't get me wrong, there's NOTHING wrong with taking this route.

You can be truly happy.

But, for me, it's one of my greatest fears.

Getting towards the end and thinking... shit!

Anyway, I talk more in the episode about it and the lessons I take from the film.

I talk about...

  • The meaning I take from the film 'About Schmidt'.
  • One of my greatest fears.
  • How I use this to inspire and motivate me.
  • Why it's important to figure out what makes you happy NOW!
  • The act of simply DECIDING to do stuff differently.
  • Why it's important to keep reminding yourself of why you're maybe making sacrifices now.

This is one of my favourite films (because of what it makes me think about mainly), so that's why I wanted to share this with you.

It's really cool being around someone like Paul Glezer, even if it is just via Skype.

I had the great pleasure of being on Paul's own podcast, My Wellness Wishlist, a few weeks back, and now we're reversing the roles for him to be a guest here on Enlightened Entrepreneurial Badasses.

He's based down in Melbourne, Australia where he works as a health and wellness coach with spirituality and a 'holistic view' being a large part of what he does.

But here on the podcast we talk about Paul's story and how he went from suffering with pretty obvious nervous twitches and anxiety in his childhood, to pretty much curing this within two days of going on a silent meditation retreat in India.

It's a great chat we had, in which we talk more in detail about what actually went down on a daily basis at this silent meditation retreat and how Paul took what he learned there and applied to to his life afterwards.

As well as a whole host of other stuff, so I highly recommend you check it out!

In The Episode, We Talk About...

  • How Paul suffered with anxiety and nervous twitches through his childhood and early adult life, and what he learned from this.
  • What caused him to pick up and go off to India for six months.
  • What it's like being on a 10 day silent meditation retreat and how it can help you achieve clarity and inner piece.
  • How Paul's anxiety and twitches pretty much disappeared within two days of being on this retreat.
  • How health and wellness differs between Australia, the UK and India.
  • How to achieve meditation-like results without having to actively sit down and meditate every day.
  • What to do if meditation is something you 'just can't get into', despite wanting the effects it brings.

It was awesome to interview Paul and so enjoyable.

We all want to be be successful.

But I think we sometimes forget to define what success actually means to us.

We just get out of school and 'fall forward' into an area we think would be pretty cool to work in.

Get a family, get a house, get a car, go on holiday and get some form of income to pay for all this stuff.

Then if you can get something to pay you more income you can have more stuff and bigger, better versions of it.

Simples, right?

Then, before we know it, we realise that we've pretty much been blindly following someone else's path.

And we're just left wondering...

"Why the piss is this not making me happy?"

But if you define what success means to YOU, it actually does become a lot simpler.

Actually spend some time thinking what it is you WANT out of life and what makes you happy.

Then reverse engineer it so you know exactly how much money you need to earn from whatever your 'thing' is in order to fund the life you want.

All is revealed in the episode.

I talk about...

  • How the 'pre-defined path' is a miserable one for most people.
  • Why visualising what success looks like for you makes things easier.
  • Engineering the life that will actually make you happy.
  • Why 'just wanting more and bigger' can be a recipe for disaster.
  • How your success can be a simple mathematical equation.

Have you ever considered that it's actually okay to be whatever or whoever you are right now?

I'm serious.

I think a lot of the time we strive to be bigger and better so much that we forget to think that right now might actually be pretty cool if we allow it to be.

Broke? That's okay.

Struggling with your business? That's okay.

Overweight and out of shape? That's okay.

I'm not saying you should just accept it and stay as you are forever.

It's also absolutely okay to want to be better and achieve bigger and better things.

But wanting to change or grow because you dislike yourself right now I think is a recipe for being in a constant state of chasing something in the future to make us happy

I explain more in the episode.

I talk about...

  • Why it's okay to be you right now, even if society says it's not.
  • How self-acceptance can lead to more joy and happiness RIGHT NOW.
  • Why you don't need to have everything mastered to be a happy human.
  • How to stop punishing yourself for decisions you've made in the past.
  • Where the idea that 'it's not okay' comes from, and how to change that.
  • How our worries about what other people think comes into play.

I really enjoyed this episode as I did it pretty much off the top of my head with no planning, which is why I maybe have a bit of a mad ramble towards the end :)

Almost as soon as you meet JP Sears you just get a feeling that this is one pretty deep thinking yet comically gifted dude.

I love his style and have admired for a time how he puts across his awesome message in such an hilarious way.

So when I reached out and he said yes to coming onto the podcast I did an Ultra Spiritual jig to celebrate.

JP has always been a bit of a comic, but in this interview we talk about how he used to use clownery to get attention and cover up emotional scars while growing up.

After a few years being a bit lost, he then found his calling and now has a thriving coaching business helping others to heal their emotions and awaken themselves from within.

But one of my favourite parts of what JP does is his YouTube channel.

This has now garnered a pretty big following after JP embraced his humour to deliver his 'Ultra Spiritual Life' series, a tongue-in-cheek look at today's 'new-age' movement. I highly recommend you check this out!

In The Episode, We Talk About...

  • How JP went from using humour to cover up his own insecurities to healing others' emotions and using comedy to share his deep message to millions via YouTube.
  • What the key is to growing your following using your own uniqueness.
  • How to deal with suffering with feelings of low self-worth.
  • How JP got through the fear that adding humour to the usually serious subject of spirituality would ruin his business.
  • Going from finding reading boring to having a passion for learning.
  • Discovering your purpose to live a more meaningful life.

I really loved my time interviewing JP (I genuinely had to rest my cheeks afterwards due to being constantly either laughing or in a smile pose).

Do you talk to yourself?

I do!

Well, I actually do talk to myself. Out loud. When nobody else is there.

Apparently this isn't because I'm completely mental, but that I'm just a certain type of learner.

Some would say a slow or a 'special' one, but we'll leave that for now.

Anyway, we all talk to ourselves in some way or another.

Whether it be out loud or not.

But with this podcast episode I'm talking specifically about how you talk to yourself with regard to your own identity.

Most of us have an identity that we build up about ourselves that dictates the kind of person we are, actions we take and opportunities we create.

"I am an entrepreneur"

"I am an athlete"

"I am a failure"

Whether positive or negative, it's all very powerful language that swills around the old brainbox, often without us even realising.

And most of the time we only alter that identity once we get a certain result.

For example, we only assume the identity of a writer once we're a professionaly published author or a millionaire once we have a million pounds or dollars in the bank.

But what if you could shift that identity BEFORE the results manifested in reality?

It is so powerful to be able to assume the identity of the person who achieves whatever the thing is you want to achieve.

And that is exactly what I show you how to do in this podcast episode.

I talk about...

  • The power of shifting your "I am" statement.
  • Why waiting for the results first is a recipe for waiting longer for those results to appear.
  • Why assuming a new identity does not make you mental :)
  • Smashing through the current negative thoughts in your head.
  • A simple three steps to a complete shift into whatever identity you want.

This is powerful shizzle, hombre.

How to be more confident...

You know, that thing us Brits really crave and yet don't like other people having too much of or we'll call them a cocky show off :)

We all seem to want more confidence, longing to be that 'self-confident person' who walks around with no fear and complete, unquestionable faith in their ability to do something.

But what is confidence?

How do we 'get more' of it?

Well, that's the subject of this very podcast episode.

In the episode, I talk about...

  • What confidence actually is.
  • Why our 'binary' look at confidence is complete bullshit.
  • How taking action has to come BEFORE confidence.
  • Why 'feeling confident' is more about how we attach our self-worth to performance.
  • And how to sort all this stuff out so we can just kick on forwards :D

After stabbing his alcoholic and abusive step-father through the heart, it could be said Dax Moy maybe wouldn't have been expected to go on and achieve the success he has.

You may also expect a guy who went through what he did and then spent several years as a Royal Marine to portray somewhat of a 'tough' exterior.

Yet he is a deeply spiritual and open guy who is one of the most genuine, authentic and generous people I have ever met.

He's also a complete weirdo... so fits in well here ;)

And he continues to use his story as a perfect example for debunking the myth that your past does not need to dictate your present or future.

Dax is now, among other things, one of the UK's highest paid coaches, having worked with royalty, platinum selling artists, high flying CEOs and Hollywood A-listers.

And it was fantastically splendiferous to speak with him for the first interview episode of this podcast.

In The Episode, We Talk About...

  • Dax's incredible story of going from looking at an attempted murder charge to a world leading coach.
  • What Dax has learned (and what you can too) from his journey.
  • The KEY difference between coaching and mentoring that most people haven't heard.
  • Why your past does not dictate your future.
  • A more actionable and useful approach to working out your story, message and 'who you are'.
  • Why fun and enjoyment trumps taking the 'ideal route' every single time.
  • Plus, Dax gets his package out ;)

Dax has played a large role in helping me figure my own shit out, so doing this interview was an honour and extremely enjoyable.

It's so frustrating when that little bastard in your head starts questioning whether you're good enough to do whatever it that you do.

Thoughts like...

"I don't have enough experience"

"I'm not ready yet"

"I need another qualification , course or certification"

"I'm not as good as Bob"

All making regular appearances and stopping you from really pushing on through.

By the way, I don't know who Bob is but I can guarantee it doesn't matter one jot about how "good" the little bugger is compared to you.

Anyway, in this episode I'm going to help you see that your belief that "I'm not good enough" is complete and 100% horse shit!

I talk about...

  • Why your clients/customers/audience don't care one little bit about your qualifications.
  • How it just makes sense that you are enough right now.
  • Using what you have in your head right to help people and build a business.
  • Pondering the question of 'when will you be enough?'
  • Being all of who you are, instead of craving to be more than you are.
  • Using Lionel Messi to stop constantly comparing yourself to others.
  • How to stop playing 'the leadership game' comparing to others and just embrace your uniqueness.

Anyhoo, this was something that really has a personal backdrop for me as I used to suffer extremely badly with all this.

So if this can help me, then it can help you.

We all have this issue at some point in our lives.

Where we just can’t seem to put ourselves out there properly due to fear of judgement from others.

Then we all know some of those people who claim not to care what people think of them.

And we stand back and think “I wish I could not care”.

Well, I’ve got some news for you.

They do care. And if they deny it then they are talking bollocks of the highest order.

They care big time.

Unless they are some kind of psychopath or sociopath (I’m not sure which one) then it is impossible for them not to care what people think about them.

And it is the same with you, me and everyone else as well.

A large part of our brain is dedicated to actually caring what the people around us think, because as humans we are made to hang around in tribes and stay connected to people in these tribes.

We literally NEED the people around us in our tribes to like us and be connected with us. If we feel like this isn’t happening, then we start to panic and feel threatened.

My point here is that you shouldn’t feel like you’re ‘broken’ because you care too much about what people think about you.

But How Does This Help?

Well, that’s exactly what I talk about in this podcast episode.

I explain…

  • Why it’s hardwired into your brain to care what people think of you.
  • What the REAL fear is behind not wanting to be judged.
  • How to get over this fear and get your shit out there anyway.
  • How something you do, say or create can NEVER be right or wrong intrinsically of itself.
  • Why YOUR truth is the only thing that matters.
  • How to use your INTENT as your mental body armour.
  • A three step process to bulletproofing yourself from what others think.
  • A simple and effective response to your brain’s prediction of getting your ‘stuff’ crucified by someone.

Sound good?

Yep, that’s right. I’m back in the podcast game.

Some of you may know that I once hosted a different podcast that ended up being a bit of a confused situation.

It was called The Healthy Entrepreneur and then changed to The Ultimate Dude Podcast.

After doing pretty well in the old iTunes charts, I soon realised that I had dropped the ball with that whole thing.

Rather than talking about what I wanted to talk about and do it in my way so it was a genuine creation of mine… I ended up saying ‘yes’ to everyone who offered themselves for interview and talking about all kinds of stuff that I wasn’t really interested in.

In other words, I lost creative control of the whole thing and it turned into a chore.

But now I’m back in the podcast world, baby!

I prefer to think of it as like Jordan returning to the Bulls or Beckham coming back to play football (soccer << ugh I hate calling it that) in Europe.

But in actual fact it’s probably more like Yakov Petrovski returning to the Ukrainian semi-professional tiddlywinks league (AKA nobody’s really bothered).

Anyway, after that rather pointless beginning to this post…

I’m Back With A New Podcast.

And this time I have a  lot more clarity around what I WANT to do with it.

No more talking about all kinds of random things with an episode on weight loss one week and growing your email list the next.

This is all about Self-mastery, mindset mastery and enlightenment within the entrepreneurial world.

You see, I have struggled a lot in this area myself… as illustrated by my previous mixed up attempts to create a podcast and blog.

I did a lot of work on my Self, my mindset, working out who I am, what I wanted to do and a whole bunch of crazy stuff.

And now I want to help you master this with what I’ve learned and am still learning every day.

But with a little bit of light-heartedness and my weird sense of humour thrown in!

Oh, and I may say fuck a few times as well.

All of this I’m sure will add up to you gaining more clarity, certainty, focus, direction and confidence in yourself, what you do and how to put it out there to the world so you can step into being a badass who has fun on the road to more success, happiness, fulfilment and making that giant impact on the world you crave.

How’s It Going To Work?

Well as a bit of a launch day special, I’m releasing this episode explaining what the podcast is all about as well as three other episodes as well.

Two of these will be just me talking to you for around 5-10 minutes in a sort of ‘audio blog post’, if you will. And the third episode will be an interview with a dude called Dax Moy that you do not want to miss.

This will all be released on a Monday (today) before going into normal procedure on Wednesday and Friday of this same week with a 5-10 minute episode on each day with just me again :D

From there, it will be business as usual for every week foreseeable week going forwards with an interview episode released every Monday and one 5-10 minute episode with just me released every Wednesday and then again on Friday.

Monday’s interview day.

Wednesday just me day.

Friday just me day again.

Simples.

And that’s all I got.

Enjoy the podcast!

Mike
